Dad Rocks! is the new solo project from Mimas vocalist and guitarist, Snævar Njáll Albertsson. Inspired by his closest relations, mostly his little daughter, Dad Rocks! combines influences such as Bill Callahan, Owen, Why?, Akron/Family and Do Make Say Think, uniting them using an array of instruments including acoustic guitar, piano, trumpet and accordian. With Albertsson's distinct lyrical style spanning a multitude of subjects - big and small - at times with tongue firmly in cheek, it's here where the project really comes to life, counjouring up weird and wonderful images for the listener at every turn.
Digital Age, the debut EP, was recorded strictly in analogue at Gl. Harlev Studio outside of Aarhus, Denmark, where the Icelandic singer resides with his young family. Originally released earlier this year via Danish independent label Kanel Records, Digital Age finally gets a UK launch in August 2010 via Big Scary Monsters Records. With the addition of a bonus track, the CD comes packaged in a handmade, popup digipak sleeve, reminiscent of a childrens book.
Dad Rocks! will play a couple of UK shows later this year ahead of the new Mimas album release in October and the debut Dad Rocks! full length record in 2011.
