Kevin Devine - Matter Of Time
Description
Kevin Devine fans know his live shows are a pretty sacred thing. KD is a unique musician in that he offers two extremes when it comes to his live performances: You can watch him play at a church alone with an acoustic guitar one month, then two months later catch him rocking a big club show in full force with The Goddamn Band.
Because of this variance, Kevin's songs tend to take on a new life as they're allowed to live and breathe throughout years of touring. That's why Matter of Time should be such a treasured part of the Kevin Devine canon; it's an album recorded live in a Brooklyn studio, consisting of 15 songs, and, in the context of his discography, it can feel overlooked. It was recorded in 2012 following nearly two years of heavy touring with the same members of The Goddamn Band, and Kevin wanted to document the band as it sounded then: "Sharp, expansive, in charge of the songs instead of vice versa, and prone to bursts of exciting improvisation."
